Time & Management. Two words that are not a part of the ‘Classic Procrastinators’ vocabulary. Time getting away from you? Having difficulty managing that plethora of responsibilities? Try this. Write it all down!
Bear with me. This suggestion is gonna be one heck of a time consuming event. Yes, it’s gonna take some doing on your part! Over the course of a week, for every 24 hours of each day, write down everything you do! You can do this in time increments or by the activity.
Example: 9 a.m breakfast — 9:30 a.m morning walk — 10 a.m – 12 noon Social Media Piranha….. 11:15 p.m – 8 a.m sleep!
15 & 30 minute increments work best for me when I need to see where all that lost time is getting away to. An hour is just too broad a window (for me). You can record what you are doing every 15 or 30 minutes of the day, or simply jot down the time each time you transition from one activity to the next… Breakfast at… Morning walk at… Facebook’d at… Sleepy bye time at… I think y’all get the point. This little experiment as I noted briefly, is gonna require some commitment! But you can do it and it’s totally worth it. I read a quote once that said something about we have all the time in the World to be great, or something like that!
“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.” ~H. Jackson Brown Jr.
However, there is one itty bitty contender that Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein didn’t have vying for their time… Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube… Social media! Grrr. But fret not. After you record how your time is spent, you’ll be all the wiser in managing! G’luck.
We’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment. Tell us. What is that thing that is draining the very life force from your day? What do you spend the most time doing? Are you idle when you can be a bit more productive? Are you intentionally procrastinating? We wanna hear from you!
