WTF is Jolly anyway?

Posted on Updated on

A few words come to mind when I hear the term ‘jolly’. Happy. Chipper. Jovial. Good ol’ Saint Nick comes to mind. That upbeat tempo, “Have A Jolly Holly Christmas’. Oh and rosy cheeks & laughing Budda bellies come to mind too! And that’s about it. Matter of fact, come to think of it, the term ‘jolly’ isn’t exactly a word that is in constant rotation in the average persons everyday vernacular.

What makes one jolly? What is the cause & effect for a word that is oh so extra?! Mood check… Hmmm. Am I ‘jolly’ today? Eh… What The Freak is JOLLY anyway? Jolly seems borderline rude & if you ask me, downright obnoxious! If Jolly were a person she/he would be all, “Hey! Look at me! I’m not just happy… I’m JOLLY!” Ugh. I’m drawing a rather dawning conclusion that I’m not particularly fond of the word. Jolly? Hmph!

*August 1. Day 1. Writing Challenge. Prompt: Jolly.

“Every situation is unique. I’m almost opting to not date during this ‘carnal sobriety’. But the approval dependent, absolute control freak, loser magnet, sex craving addict in me is telling my body that this is not a good idea.”

Old year. New challenge. Who’s with me?

Posted on Updated on

If I may re-introduce myself. I promise to be uber brief. I’m the CEO of FreedomInk Publishing. The end. See. Short, quick and to the point. I’m much more than that but smartly all other monikers I claim ebb & flow into and interlace rather beautifully with this one. As the CEO of FreedomInk Publishing, I’m always challenging those around me to read more! I feel that literacy should be the cornerstone of every community. With this formidable weapon in your arsenal, no door can remain locked, no secret un-decoded! Knowledge is power. Even fiction holds the many keys of the world. A mind is a terrible thing to waste and what is a mind without imagination but a void wasteland! So here’s the challenge… Read at least 6 books in 2015. We’re calling it the 6:12 Promise! Repeat after me, “I do hereby agree to read at least 6 books in the new year.” FreedomInk is challenging YOU to read more! 6 books in 12 months. I have declared 2015, The Year of The Book. But let’s not go it alone. There is much fun to be had when we agree to accept this challenge as a group. Let’s make this book thang’ a social thang’. First, please create a Goodreads account. This allows you to keep track of what you are reading, as well as your friends! Second, take the promise seriously, you have to read. Looking for books? www.freedomink365.com/the_books I have heard the complaints of some. Not enough time, start and not finish, book doesn’t keep your attention/interest! If I may suggest 2 books to begin this challenge… MOJO For Sale: The Art of Encouraging One’s Self & Carnal Sobriety. Both books penned by yours truly. Each book is an easy read, has a great flow and is less than 100 pages long. Get it (the book) and get on with it (your life). So who will be so bold as to accept this challenge? Will it be you? Oh yeah, there is one more rule to this challenge… Have fun! I’m having a 6:12 Promise logo made for the site & tees. I’m excited to read with you!

What’s Your Addiction

Posted on

Don’t keep calm. ‘Carnal Sobriety’ is on the way! So I’ve been asking everyone in my personal & professional & social media circles, “What’s your addiction?” It’s a very private question. One whose answers are all too revealing! It’s no surprise that I don’t get much response when I ask. I recently posed the question again via a questionnaire at the ‘Carnal Sobriety’ Presale Event https://www.facebook.com/events/348489015323722/ Less than 5 people responded. Gasp! Are we all perfect now? Doing my research I’m assured that we are all beautifully flawed creatures.  Plagued and ridiculed with flaws. There is no such thing as a perfect human being. Then why do we feign perfection? Take a look at these common addictions…

–  Social media & internet

– Shopping

– Work

– Food

– Sex

– Alcohol

– Cigarettes

– Prescription Drugs

– Marijuana

And the list goes on and on and on! So I ask again… What’s your addiction? Newsflash! The book is on the way! FreedomInk Publishing has decided on a release date. Drumroll please. Christmas! That leaves us asking the question, ‘Have you been naughty or nice?’. Join the presale event. Preorder your very own copy of the autographed book. Happy reading!

Multifaceted Jewel Recipient Keith Kareem Williams

Brooklyn New York Native, Keith Kareem Williams is FreedomInk’s 2014 Hidden Gems Multifaceted Jewel Recipient!

Keith Kareem Williams is the author of 8 books & currently working on his 9th. He still resides in his hometown of Brooklyn, New York where he delicately balances his time between his responsibilities as a single father as well as the challenges of being a full-time author. “In interviews, one of the most difficult questions I’ve been asked is, ‘What genre are your novels?’ because honestly, I never write with any particular style in mind. I enjoy blending styles and mashing different genres together in interesting ways. Basically, I pen whatever is in my heart and soul. However, if I had to describe my style I would use musical terms and say that I write Urban, Hip-Hop, fiction with the rhythm of Reggae that crashed into Heavy Metal and then began to bleed Neo Soul.”

What is the most memorable and/or life-altering book you read this year?

Posted on Updated on

If only we each could be so lucky as to discover a book that has the profound ability to change the way we view the world. Each year I set a goal of how many books I’d like to read. And of those books, I’m always delighted when I encounter a book that literally shakes my foundation. I’ve read over a dozen books this year. Perhaps not a large feat to some and for others, this is a monumental thing. As always I’ve left my reviews and I’ve even had the delightful joy of meeting some pretty amazing Authors along the way… Christopher John Farley, Alisa Kwitney, even Anne Rice took the time to reply! The book that I read this year that shook my world? It’s such a tough decision that I couldn’t decide on just one, so I selected two…

life altering reads 2014

‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne http://amzn.com/1582701709 opened my eyes to a world with limitless possibility. Imagine just how your life will change once you realize that anything is possible for those that believe. The power of attraction is a very real thing. Think positive thoughts and great things will happen.

‘One Word that will change your life’ by Jon Gordon et. al. http://amzn.com/1118809424 will do just that. It WILL change your life. The book teaches the reader that each individual has the power to change his or her own life with just one word. The word I chose and focused on throughout 2014 was ‘Push’. I kept this word at the forefront of everything I did. In my personal life as well as my professional life. I pushed my children to do better in school. I pushed myself to love me first and foremost. I pushed the Authors of FreedomInk and I pushed me. In doing so I was able to publish 7 books this year. 3 titles of which I penned. This one word attitude is one that I plan to take into the new year with me. Nevermind the New Year’s Resolution. What one word will you choose to focus on in 2015? Leave your comment via this blog post. I want to hear from you!

Take a look at the books I read this year via my Goodreads Challenge https://www.goodreads.com/user_challenges/1183409

Email the CEO of FreedomInk Publishing. We’d like to know what life altering book you read in 2014. katandra@freedomink365.com

I recently asked the Authors of FreedomInk to reveal the book that they read this year that was the most memorable and/or life altering. Dawn Miller, Author of Darkness Before the Dawn states that all of the books she has read this year have touched her in a most profound way. Kenny L. Mitchell, Author of The Loves Me Not Trilogy and the Creator of The Askari Sisterhood read FreedomInk title, Angel Eyes: A Collective Memoir of Child Sexual Abuse, for a second time and commends the Author on her bravery in composing and compiling such harsh truths. When ‘Woman on Fire’ Author, Trinette Collier was asked what book was the most memorable and life altering that she has read this year, she responded, “Serita Ann Jakes’ The Princess Within, Restoring the Soul of A Woman. It showed me how valuable my life is and the importance of being a woman and a vessel for God. It gave me the courage to accept all of me, physically as well as spiritually!”

Conversations Book Club Top 100 books of 2014

Posted on Updated on

MOJO For Sale: The Art of Encouraging One’s Self made the list. Silence. Initial awe and shock. Gasp as the news settles in. This is major! FreedomInk has made the list in previous years. 2013 saw FreedomInk Author, Kenny L. Mitchell and The Loves Me Not Trilogy. The Top 100 of 2012 featured Tony’s Tiffany by former FreedomInk Author, John Mobley and FreedomInk Author, Ramona Jones’ debut compilation of poetry, Life & Love Through My Eyes. I am honored to finally have joined the Authors of FreedomInk via this most elite roster of literary delights! Joining their ranks has made me glad of the decision to balance more carefully my responsibility as the CEO of FreedomInk Publishing alongside the continuous pursuit of being an author. MOJO is my 6th published book. It’s release into the world has me believing firmly that Best Selling Authors write Best Selling Books. It is a rare thing for an Author to become an overnight success. They understand that in order to truly claim this passion as a career, one must write A LOT! I’m constantly writing. In fact, I do it everyday. Filling up notebooks weekly. I’m a firm believer of fine tuning my literary skills. With that said, I’m gonna keep writing. Thanks Cyrus for recognizing my Author efforts in MOJO! That which I pen prayerfully just keeps getting better. Conversations Book Club Top 100 books of 2014 is just the beginning. Look out New York Times BestSeller list. Make room for me…. I’m on my way. P.S. Congrats to every Author, title & Publishing house that made the list this year and in prior years! Keep writing!
